Andy Stewart

Andy is a retired family doctor. He and his wife have a vineyard in South East Cornwall, two donkeys, two dogs, two
cats, a tortoise, two grown up children and a mischievous grandson. For over twenty years Andy wrote a monthly satirical column for a medical newsletter under the name Dr Basil Bile, and as Dr Hugh Joverdraft penned regular humorous articles in the now defunct Dispensing Doctor Journal.  He is on the fourth revision of his first book, Death of a Cornish Innocent, a cosy crime novel set in a fishing village in the 1980’s featuring a GP sleuth. Over the years he has written scripts for various medical shows. He also writes Flash Fiction and Comic Poetry. He has learned all about psychological stress by watching Plymouth Argyle attempt to play football for three
decades.

Originally from London then Chalfont St. Peter, Alison qualified for a commercial art degree at Slough College of Art.  Unfortunately her family had other ideas.  Her first job was as a sales assistant on China and Glass at Sopers of Harrow.  Then a window dresser at DH Evans, Oxford Street, trying to live on £25 per week in a  bedsit in Kilburn.  Needing to earn a decent salary she became a croupier in London.  Then in the late 1980's she took a risk and left the job for a foundation course at Putney Art College, which lead on to an HND in Typographic design at London College of Printing.  From there she worked for various printers within the London area.  Alison retired to Devon and now explores Europe.   Learning French.  Enjoys the Tothill Writing Group.

Lynn studied Fine Art at Hornsey and Ruskin College of Art later qualifying as an Art and Family Therapist.  (Done a bit of therapy with dogs).  Some years ago she wrote and illustrated a book about a baby crow with a damaged wing.  The crow stayed with Lynn for six months until strong enough to fly.  Aware her writing skills were limited she joined Andy Lavender's writing course.  She found it an humiliating experience.  Andy spent many hours crossing out words with a thick red pen.  She admits she would think of many ways of killing him.  But gradually his guidance helped put her stories in a constructive form.  Lynn is specifically interested in characters from everyday life and fascinated with the many layers of emotions and defences they use for survival.

Andrew writes a  diverse range of material including history, horror, children's stories, comedy and so far one novel.  His most creative writing is in the form of his curriculum vitae.  As a child he planned to write his own dictionary - by copying the Oxford dictionary word for word.  That one is still in the to do pile right under his gym membership application form.  He lives in a world of his own, with his daughter, who he is sure is plotting his murder through sarcasm.

Jeremy likes the dark. He is a carer for his wife and son, his daughter having flown the nest. He keeps himself sane by writing about the things that lurk in the shadows and the minds of children and depressed alike.  He is qualified as a drama practitioner but prefers writing and directing rather than performing. Interests include Viking re-enactment, reading, history and politics, he is banned from discussing politics as it makes him angry. Having a heart condition, it could be detrimental to his health. He has written a couple of plays about depression and mental health.  He wishes to return to writing for stage sometime in the near future.  Jeremy finished second in a national magazine competition, writes flash fiction with his writing group and hopes to start a novel soon.  He is happiest when it is raining.
